The best thrift finds are usually one small change away from perfect: the wrong color, a hem that's too long, a seam you want gone.

You don't need a sewing machine for most of that. Fabric dye handles the color, fabric glue handles the no-sew fixes, and a seam ripper, good scissors and a mending kit handle the rest. Bob Vila calls fabric glue an alternative to sewing, and its guide sorts glues by the job, from fast-drying to temporary. The dye picks come from BestReviews, and each card shows the drawback too, so you know what you're getting before you add it to your cart. Start with one piece you won't cry over, because the first flip is rarely the best one.
Who this is not for. Skip this if you want to sew clothes from scratch; the Sewing Starter list has the machines and tools for that.

Questions people ask
Can I flip thrifted clothes without a sewing machine?
Yes. Bob Vila says fabric glue can be used as an alternative to sewing, and a mending kit covers small hand stitching. If you want to take on bigger projects, the Sewing Starter list has machine picks.
How long should fabric glue dry before I wash it?
Bob Vila says you usually need to wait at least 24 hours before washing. It depends on the glue: Secure Stitch takes 24 hours to cure, while Tear Mender lists 15 minutes until it's washable. Check the label on yours.
Will fabric dye work on anything I thrift?
Not always, so read the fabric tag and the kit's instructions first. BestReviews says the Rit Back to Black kit works on several fabric types but doesn't work on bleach stains, and it says Pentel's dye sticks become permanent when set with an iron.
