Detergent, a stain remover, a hamper or bag to carry clothes, and a drying rack for anything that shouldn't go in the dryer. A lint roller and a fabric shaver are nice extras.
Pods are the easiest because there's nothing to measure, which is handy in a shared laundry room. Liquid usually costs less per load and lets you use a little extra on a really dirty load.
Check the care label first. Leggings, swimsuits, bras, wool and anything that says 'lay flat to dry' or 'hang dry' should go on a drying rack, since heat can shrink or stretch them.
