Questions people ask
How bright does an outdoor projector need to be?
HGTV's guide says at least 500 lumens for complete darkness and more like 1500 to 3000 for dusk or anything slightly brighter. It also notes that the listed lumens are often for the optimal screen size, not the largest one, so a big picture on a small projector gets dim fast.
Do I need a screen for a backyard movie?
Not strictly. HGTV says a white wall, sheet or the side of a building works in a pinch, but any texture lowers the clarity of the picture. A screen helps because most can be stretched tight and stay wrinkle-free.
Do I need a separate speaker?
It depends on the projector. HGTV found the XGIMI MoGo 3 Pro clear and loud enough that a soundbar wasn't necessary even with a crowd, and it liked the built-in sound on the Nebula and Aurzen too. It called the audio on the Epson EpiqVision Flex one of its weakest points.
What do I do if it's windy?
Digital Trends says the Vivohome inflatable can be unstable in wind, though it comes with tethers and yard stakes, and it calls the Mdbebbron wall-mounted screen very wind-resistant.
