Questions people ask
Is air frying worth it in a toaster oven?
Food Network says you should spring for a model with air frying to get the most value, but it isn't free: America's Test Kitchen's Best Buy air fryer oven seemed underpowered at toast, and ATK found every air fryer toaster oven in its lineup a bit hard to clean. If you mostly want toast and broiling, a regular toaster oven is a fine start.
How big a toaster oven do you need?
It depends on what you cook. America's Test Kitchen's best small model, the Breville Mini Smart Oven, has an 11.1 x 10.1 x 3.5 inch interior and can't roast a whole chicken. Food Network says the Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro fits 9 x 13 dishes, a quarter sheet pan and a 5-quart Dutch oven, but it's far bigger on the counter.
Why buy a separate pan?
America's Test Kitchen says the pans that come with toaster ovens can warp and wear out, and that upgrading to a sturdy quarter sheet pan is your best bet for the long term. It also suggests adding a quarter-size cooling rack.
