Theme Park Day

A theme park day is mostly standing in the sun, getting soaked on purpose, and watching your battery drop because the park app and your camera never stop.

So this list skips the novelty stuff and sticks to what fixes those problems. NBC Select's staff picked the handheld fans, BestReviews picked the ponchos (its best of the best even calls out water rides), and Pack Hacker picked the waterproof phone pouches. The power banks come from Engadget, the cooling towel from Shop TODAY, and the sunscreen stick and blister balm from NBC Select, so every badge links back to a real review. Each card shows the drawback too, like the cheap ponchos that won't survive a second wearing. Before you pack, check your park's bag rules, since they vary by park.

Who this is not for. Skip this if you're packing for a multi-day music festival; the Festival Kit has the earplugs, hydration packs and clear bags for that.

Questions people ask

How long will a phone stay safe in a waterproof pouch?

It depends on the pouch. Pack Hacker lists the Pelican Marine as IP68, which it describes as submersion up to one meter for 30 minutes, and the Nite Ize RunOff as IP67. Pack Hacker doesn't state an IP number for the JOTO.

Are cheap ponchos good enough?

Cheap is fine if you only need them once. BestReviews says the Lingito ponchos are very thin and won't last longer than one use, while the Clear Harbour pack can be reused several times.

Can a fan charge my phone?

The Jisulife can: NBC Select lists it as working as a power bank as well as a fan. Our take: it has one battery doing both jobs, so pack a separate power bank if your phone is your ticket, map and camera all day.
