Questions people ask
Can I mount a TV on drywall without studs?
Some mounts are made for it. Bob Vila's drywall pick is the Aentgiu Studless mount, for 26 to 55 inch TVs, and it says the mount suits rentals and dorms. Installation takes some effort to get right, and Bob Vila lists a lower weight limit for drywall than for concrete, so check it against your TV. Check your lease before you drill.
Which anchor should I use?
Match it to the job. Bob Vila advises using multiple Qualihome plastic anchors for anything over 15 pounds. The E-Z Ancor Toggle Lock is a 100-pound toggle that installs with a screwdriver, and the Toggler Snaptoggle BB goes up to 265 pounds in 1/2-inch drywall.
How do I fix the holes when I move out?
DAP DryDex is Bob Vila's best overall spackle: it turns from pink to white when dry, can be sanded and needs no separate primer. For a medium hole, the Red Devil kit adds a patch, putty knife and sandpaper.
