Questions people ask
What can I upgrade in a rental without losing my deposit?
Peel-and-stick wallpaper and damage-free strips are the easiest wins. Peel-and-stick backsplash and floor tiles, a rechargeable sconce and a shower head swap are nice next steps. Check your lease and keep the original shower head to put back.
Does peel-and-stick wallpaper damage walls?
It depends on the paper. In Bob Vila's test, repositioning the Tempaper Feather Flock didn't pull paint off the wall, and the WallPops Maui left a clean wall when peeled gently at the corners, but Chasing Paper's strong adhesive may pull off some paint. Smooth walls work best: Bob Vila says the WallPops Maui isn't great on textured walls.
Is peel-and-stick flooring OK for renters?
Bob Vila calls the Art3d vinyl wood planks a great option for renters or a temporary update, and lists the FloorPops Kikko tiles as great for renters. Its FAQ warns that tiles down for more than a few days can tear when removed, so it suggests warming the adhesive first.
