Winter is hard on cars: salt, slush and sand get tracked in and stick to the paint. A small kit keeps it under control. All-weather floor mats catch the mess before it soaks the carpet, a handheld vacuum clears the sand, and a pH-neutral soap with good microfiber towels gets road salt off the paint. Add an interior cleaner for the dash and a glass cleaner for the hazy inside of the windshield. Tire shine and wheel cleaner are the optional finishing touches. Every pick won an award in The Drive's product tests, with budget, mid and splurge options where it named them.
Who this is not for. Skip this if you use a car wash every week; the winter car kit covers emergencies.

A handheld vacuum, car wash soap (not dish soap), a wash mitt or sponge, microfiber towels, an interior cleaner and a glass cleaner. All-weather floor mats make winter cleanup much easier.
Can I use dish soap to wash my car?
It's better not to. Dish soap is made to strip grease and can strip wax and protective coatings too. A pH-neutral car wash soap cleans without removing that protection.
How often should I wash my car in winter?
Every week or two when roads are salted, and after big storms. Rinse the underside and wheel wells, where salt collects and causes rust.
