Sanrio gifts are easy to get wrong, because the internet is full of knockoff plush with off-model faces.
Everything here is officially licensed Sanrio, or made by licensed makers like Squishmallows and Jazwares, and every pick was named in a published gift guide I read. I pulled the plush picks from ComicBook's roundup of Hello Kitty plush worth collecting, and the everyday stuff (bags, mugs, a puzzle, a light-up mirror) from UpParent's Sanrio gift list. Not sure which character they like? Hello Kitty is the safe default, and the mixed sets with Cinnamoroll, Kuromi and My Melody cover your bases. Check that the listing says Sanrio, Jazwares or Squishmallows before you buy.
Who this is not for. If they want vintage Japan-only Sanrio items or limited drops, skip this list and look at Sanrio's own stores instead.

Look for Sanrio, Jazwares or Squishmallows as the brand on the listing. The picks here come from published guides and are all licensed products, not unbranded lookalikes.
Hello Kitty is the safest bet, and multi-character sets like the Squishmallows 4-pack keychain cover Cinnamoroll, Hello Kitty, Kuromi and My Melody in one gift.
No. ComicBook frames the plush as collectibles, and items like the LED compact mirror and the wallet are everyday things a teen or adult would use.
ComicBook notes the Squishmallows Sanrio line also comes in 12-inch sizes, and the Jazwares Pastel Florals line covers six characters, so you can build a matching set.
