Doctors are hard to shop for because they already own the work stuff and have zero spare time.

So I skipped novelty stethoscope junk and went for things that make a long shift or a short night easier: a good coffee setup, foot and neck relief, a sleep mask for call rooms, and a power bank that actually gets used. Every pick here comes from Scary Mommy's list of gifts doctors would probably never buy for themselves, plus one stethoscope that a second guide calls a safe default. I only kept items the guide named, and I left out anything I could not pin to a specific product. Practical tip: if the doctor is a trainee, ask which specialty before buying anything clinical, since gear preferences vary a lot.

Who this is not for. If you are shopping for a nurse or nursing student, check the nurse gifts and nursing school starter lists instead.

Questions people ask

What do you get a doctor who has everything?

Go for comfort and time savers instead of work gear. The guides I read lean toward coffee gear, massagers, sleep help and small treats, since doctors rarely buy those for themselves.

Is a stethoscope a good gift for a doctor?

It can be, if you know they need one. A second guide I read calls the Littmann Classic III a safe default when you do not know the specialty. Ask first if you can, since many doctors already own a favorite.

What is a good gift for a med student or resident?

Things that help with long hours: a sleep mask, a power bank, a reusable notebook or a smart mug. They are useful in a hospital and not weird to receive from a friend or family member.

Should I worry about gift rules at work?

If you are gifting a doctor as a patient, some practices have gift policies, so a small treat or a card is the safest bet. Friends and family can ignore this.

When should I order so it arrives by Christmas?

USPS's recommended last send dates for December 25 in the contiguous US are December 17 for Ground Advantage, December 18 for Priority Mail and December 19 for Priority Mail Express. Retailers set their own order-by dates, so check at checkout.
